On site with Travelodge: Q4 hotel development update

CGI of London Oval Travelodge – the group’s 600th hotel

Colchester Northern Gateway Travelodge
Construction of our first hotel in Colchester at Northern Gateway is progressing well. The 90-room Travelodge forms part of a major mixed-use development being developed by Turnstone Estates and funded via a lease-wrapper deal with  Colchester City Council. The hotel is part of a 200,000 sq. ft. leisure park, which includes a cinema, bowling alley, indoor golf, seven restaurants and a new 750-space car park, so there will be plenty for our customers to enjoy! Located just off the A12, and within walking distance of the Colchester park and ride facility and Colchester Football Club, this will be a fantastic hotel for business and leisure customers, in a thriving location for living, playing, working and doing business.

Colchester Northern Gateway Travelodge is our 15th hotel in Essex and will feature our new premium look and feel design – which includes all the low cost efficiencies you would expect from Travelodge but with the added benefit of thoughtful, stylish design and homely touches throughout its interiors. It also includes a number of sustainable initiatives, which include the carpets being made from recycled fishing nets and old plastic bottles. Every ten of these bottles which are recycled rather than being sent to landfill saves enough energy to power a laptop for 25 hours.  The other features include low energy lighting, motion sensing controls and aerated showers and taps.

Colchester Northern Gateway Travelodge is expected to open in time for Christmas trading.

London Beckenham Travelodge
This will be our 81st hotel in London and the first branded hotel in Beckenham. It is located on the high street, close to Beckenham railway station and the Tramlink, which provides direct services to London Victoria in around 20 minutes.  The 68-room hotel is part of a mixed-use scheme which includes a bar and residential units and is being developed by Dunward Properties.

London Oval Travelodge – the group’s 600th hotel
The UK 2023 cricket season is officially coming to an end this month, but we are on a straight run to open our 600th Travelodge hotel at the Kia Oval by the end of this year.

London Oval Travelodge will be a 95-room hotel, with on-site restaurant. Development started at the beginning of this year and we are three quarters of the way to completion and hope to be open for Christmas trading.

This hotel is being developed and funded by Surrey County Cricket Club and we are proud to be the first hotel at The Kia Oval Cricket Ground. Located directly opposite the main Hobbs Gate entrance, we are certain cricket fans will be filling up these rooms in no time once we have opened.

The hotel is also only 100m from Oval Tube Station, which is served by the Northern Line, meaning its location is perfect for customers visiting central London, for both business and leisure.

When it comes to our new-build hotels, sustainability is at the forefront of our minds and London Oval Travelodge will be built to a BREEAM Excellent standard and achieve an EPC A rating. The design incorporates air source heat pumps, roof mounted PV’s, EV car chargers and green roofs, which represent some of our sustainability and ESG objectives as a business.

Opening our 600th hotel is just the starting point for Travelodge, as we are currently looking for further 300 hotel sites across the UK, with 100 of these sites in the Capital.

Details of the locations where we want to open a new Travelodge hotel can be found on the development page on our Property Website via the following link – https://www.travelodgeproperty.co.uk/development-partnerships/#uk-target-map.  If you know of any good locations, please do contact us.
