Plans approved for two new hotels

Plans to build two new Travelodge hotels in Newton Abbot and Ipswich have been approved by councillors.

Councillors at Teignbridge District Council have approved plans for a new Travelodge hotel to be built in the centre of Newton Abbot.

The project involves the development of the current Halcyon Road car park into a 72-room Travelodge and Bar Café restaurant. Councillors said that it was a long-term aim for the town to attract a national hotel brand, which will boost footfall and spending within the area.

Cllr Jackie Hook added: “This is a long term aspiration which will assist the recovery of the town and town centre post-Covid.”

Meanwhile, Ipswich Borough Council has granted planning permission for a 100-room Travelodge in Ipswich.

The hotel will be located near to Ipswich Town Football Club, in the CBD and within a short walk of the railway station and the town centre. It will be developed by the Burney Group on an under-used car park in Russell Road. The hotel will be Travelodge’s fifth in Ipswich

This is a long term aspiration which recognises the opportunity tourism brings to the town and it will assist the recovery of town centre post-Covid.
